Thoughts

Whether Uncle Paul ever truly knew how much he meant to us I don't know. He was one of very few people I would seek out for advice on major life decisions, car related advice or just help with DIY. He had a great sense of humour and always gave very frank advice, always wanting to make sure we were doing well, genuinely interested in how work was going and life in general. It was because of Paul that I finally bought our house and entered the next chapter in our life. Since we moved in it was lovely to have Paul and Linda down for many BBQs and family gatherings. I'm glad that we got to see Paul and Linda so much over the last few years, only wish I'd taken more photos. I have many happy memories over the last 38 years, from visiting on the weekend as kids, watching the first matches in the premier league and formula 1 back in Sheering, to meeting our daughter Elizabeth at the end of 2023. A great man and role model who will be very much missed.

Paul was such a gentle and kind hearted man, my Dad's friend and always welcoming to his pesky daughter. A man brave enough to support my developing driving skills. Maintaining his good humour through dodgy 'racing' gear changes and calming me through my first, albeit minor, accident."You alright?" When my concern was for my dad's car, "It's just a car, as long as you're alright." With that lovely smile. Hope you two are enjoying a great catch up and you're alright now there's no more pain. Thanks for your time and kindness, you'll always be in my heart.

Paul was the voice of reason and guiding star through difficult times in my life. Linda & Paul took me to see 'Bambi' when I was 6, and the circus as a treat; as I grew up, he introduced me to the thrill of fast cars, motorbikes, and a shared love of rock music. Paul wasn't just my Dad's friend; two rogues, often up to no good, he was a mentor and the best mate you could have, he opened the door to his family and new horizons. Together, we loved the roar of engines and the freedom of the open road, touring the UK & Europe, racing on tracks like Mallory Park & Snetterton, visiting Holland, getting lost and a police escort to Assen, riding to and from Scotland in the rain in one day, or just to the seaside for a squiggly (ice-cream) sharing our passion for great racers and seeing rock legends like Status Quo & Genesis. Paul and Linda were the pillars that held me steady, bringing balance, reason and reflection on the chaos of difficult times in my early years. Paul & Lin stood by me, a father figure to me and others, whose wisdom, common sense and kindness never faltered, always asking, ‘as long as you’re alright?’ As I write this, I imagine Paul and my dad having the greatest catch-up somewhere above, watching over us all with smiles that time cannot fade. The space left by their absence will be impossible to fill. But Paul’s spirit lives on in every revved engine, every guitar solo, and in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Linda will miss you most, but we’re all pleased you’re no longer in pain having battled so hard for so long but always asking; are you all right? Paul’s legacy is not just in the adventures we had, but in the countless lives he touched with generosity of spirit, and sense of fun. He taught us to take life with both hands, to find beauty in the journey, and to cherish friendship and make sure others are alright. Rest in peace, I was so lucky to have known you, and you’ll forever be a treasured companion on the road in the rest of my life. You’ll be so badly missed and hoping that at last that you’re alright?
